About the Artist

Gary Woods is an award-winning California watercolor artist inspired by the landscapes and quiet beauty of the Sierra Nevada and coastal regions. Based in the greater Yosemite area, his paintings reflect a lifelong appreciation for light, atmosphere, and the enduring character of place.

Many subjects begin during travels shared with his wife, whose photographs often provide the starting point for new works. Together, they are drawn to moments that feel timeless — a coastline at dusk, a marina softened by reflection, or a subtle detail that quietly captures the spirit of a location.

Working in watercolor allows for a level of transparency and nuance that closely mirrors the natural world. Each painting is developed with patience and care, building layers of color that preserve luminosity and a quiet sense of presence.

Through this process, Gary creates artwork that feels both personal and enduring — pieces intended to invite reflection and bring a sense of place into the spaces where they are lived with and enjoyed.
